Boxing Program Director
Richard is the founder of Double Punches and has served as head coach since its creation. He holds a Level III Coaches License from USA Boxing Inc. Richard has been working with troubled youth and their families for over 30 years. Well before “gangs” were recognized as a problem in Sonoma County, Richard was already working with youth involved in gangs and drugs or in danger of getting involved. Double Punches was founded as a result of what Richard saw as an emerging problem. His efforts have been well documented in numerous newspaper articles as far back as 1993, making him a prominent voice in our community, and one of the first to open a boxing gym.
Assistant Boxing Program Director
Maria is the wife of Richard Lopez. Maria has 35 years experience working for the County of Sonoma in Social and Child Support Services working with poverty level families in need. She has worked for the past 20 years assisting Richard with the Double Punches Boxing Club and working directly with high-risk youth and their families.
Jose Gonzales Jr.
Jose joined Double Punches when he was a high school student,16 years old. After graduation he returned as a volunteer and in January 2006 was added to the staff of Double Punches. He holds a Level 1 Coaches License from USA Boxing Inc.
Jovanni started out as a volunteer coach in 2010, and in 09/2011 was officially added to our staff. He holds a Level 1 Coaches License from USA Boxing Inc. Jovanni is also an experienced Professional Boxer who holds the title belt for the 2011 Fight Night 13 Marconi Championship.
Andrea was added to our staff in 11/2012. Her previous experience includes working for the Santa Rosa Junior College, Petaluma campus Student Affairs and Academic Counseling offices. Now an SRJC graduate, she is currently pursuing a degree in Health Care. Andrea assists with all aspects of the administrative portion of the program, including updating the Double Punches website.
Rubie Magallanes started working as the Double Punches/TAM Site Supervisor in September 2013. She ensures that students receive academic assistance and that they participate in activities promoting social skills and team building. She recently graduated from Sonoma State University with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. Rubie also frequently participates in the boxing workouts, after tutoring.
